Career Development
Career Development & Experiential Learning
The MIT Center for Real Estate (CRE) encourages students to participate in career development and experiential learning activities throughout the school year. CRE students can participate in career development and experiential learning activities in the form of:
Winter externship; a short term, FT work assignment in either the US or abroad during the Independent Activities Period (IAP), which takes place during the month of January,
Summer internship; a FT work assignment in the summer (Jun-Aug), either in the US or abroad, and
Employer-in-Residence; an increasingly popular practice used by colleges and universities to expose students to industry leaders and professionals through on-campus activities. Our Employer-in-Residence program features;
Project-based learning opportunities (when available by employers),
Opportunities for industry and data support expertise to be shared for thesis topics, and
Recruitment for employment openings
By participating in one or more of the three forms of experiential learning and career development, MSRED students are positioned for a seamless transition back into the workforce as real estate professionals.
Additional Features & Activities for MSRED Students
Resume Book. A resource tool shared with partners and the professional community, CRE creates a specialized resume book to feature each student participating in the MSRED program.

Professional Mentoring. Paired with alums, our optional, year-long mentoring program offers incoming students professional advising, career coaching, nonacademic information sharing and networking.
Career Planning. To support each student in their short goals and long-term professional development, CRE uses an 8-step planning guide to help students shape their career path.. MSRED students must book two, 1:1 meetings with the career development officer. The two proposed meetings are: one in the fall, the other in the spring.
CRE Job Board. The CRE has a dedicated job board for MSRED students to explore a number of career and experiential learning opportunities. Dr. Kelly Cameron, the Center's Career Development Officer, will be introducing the CRE Job Board during orientation. It is in your best interests to sign up and familiarize yourself with the platform early so that you make take advantage of networking and professional opportunities. Using a single sign-on through Kerberos, students can access the CRE Job Board at any time. Sign-up here: https://candidate.gradleaders.com/MITCRE/Candidates?Login.aspx?pid=3858
Lunch & Learns. To expose students to various industry practices and building projects, this learning session breaks down the traditional learning environment into an interactive presentation session between professional(s) and students.
Thought Leader Lectures (TL2). A nontraditional guest lecture series taking place in the evening during the fall semester, followed by informal engagement with presenters by students over food and soft drinks. TL2 is always informative [and fun].
